| 複数の可算名詞chairs, ideas | ✗not possible | the chairsparticular ones | chairschairs in general |

She is a doctor. Every seat was taken. What a day!
Doctors work long hours. Water is essential. Advice is free.
be や work as の後の職業名には a または an が必要です:He is an architect.
My brother is student.✓ My brother is a student.Student
We bought a new chairs.✓ We bought new chairs.
The water is important for health.✓ Water is important for health.
a/an か the か?
| a(子音の音) | an(母音の音) |
|---|---|
| a university, a uniform(y の音) | an umbrella, an uncle |
| a European city(y の音) | an egg, an email |
| a one-hour class(w の音) | an hour, an honor(h は発音しない) |
| a UN report(y の音) | an MBA, an X-ray(文字の名前:em, ex) |
Where is a remote control? I left it here.✓ Where is the remote control? I left it here.
I'd like to have the dog one day.✓ I'd like to have a dog one day.
She waited a hour.✓ She waited an hour.h
|---|---|---|
| advice | a piece of advice | some tips, several pieces of advice |
| bread | a loaf of bread, a slice of bread | two loaves of bread |
| water | a glass of water, a bottle of water | three bottles of water |
| furniture | a piece of furniture | four pieces of furniture |

Much は肯定文では堅い、ぎこちない響きになります(We have much time)。代わりに a lot of を使います:We have a lot of time.
- many/much の取り違え
I don't have many money.✓ I don't have much money. - few/little の取り違え
